Painting at Alfred East

Bill painting at the Alfred East Gallery on Wednesday - reported that there was a steady stream of visitors to the Exhibition. Even better they were complimentary about his work (of course they were Bill - it's always brilliant!!).

If anyone else is interested in setting up camp in the gallery for a few hours, contact Bobbie on networkarts@talktalk.net.

The Exhibition is on until 29th September.

Review: August Workshop

John Black's workshop was a bit of a rare treat in that he did not open his programme with a demonstration of his artistic skills and tips on how he did things, but asked that everyone who attended get on with their own projects (hence the request for each to bring their own photo or photos to choose a subject from) and he would circulate amongst the members present giving advice  on how their work should progress, whatever the medium they were working in.

He was always on hand to offer guidance and even borrow your paintbrush to help steer your picture along.  At various stages, most of us were rewarded when he picked up our picture and walked round showing it to the rest of the class which made you feel pretty good about what you had achieved.  Some of us have difficulty in knowing when to stop and possibly overwork a picture, but John always knew when to say stop and ask us to just finish off by signing our work.

Review: July workshop

Sarah Janavicius led the July workshop in textural collage.

She brought along examples of her work and demonstrated a variety of methods for producing the textures used in the collage, from fibreglass to sponging and an elaborate system of blobs of paint in layers which were then picked off revealing patterns (that's commitment).

Using templates supplied or ones we created, the collages took shape. Sarah made it look rather easier than it turned out to be but some success came from the challenge and discipline of working out what pieces worked next to each other. Another good attendance - but where were all the boys? Collage not your thing, chaps?
